Since nobody wanted to book a trip today for some reason, I decided to take advantage of the perfect fishing weather and light wind to explore an area I haven’t been able to fish much recently. This area produced an 83 pound blue for me last year and numerous 40-50+ lb class fish. The tricky part is it’s a big log jam in deep water so actually landing them can be a challenge. On my first drift across it I had a planer board rip under the water and my drag was going like nothing I’ve heard recently, I fought the fish for several minutes before I felt it go into the structure, while trying to work it free it cut my leader on the structure. At that point I was feeling pretty discouraged but past experience taught me those large fish group together in the same general area a lot of the time. Just a few hundred yards away from where I broke that monster off, another rod buried down and this one I managed to get into the boat! The water temperature is right and these big fish should be showing up on a regular basis here for a while, if a chance at a big fish is what you’re looking for now is a good time to book!
